DENTAL IMPLANTS

BENEFITS
- You can replace a missing tooth with a fixed crown without needing to involve the neighboring teeth in a bridge.
- Several implants can support a bridge if you’re missing more than one tooth.
- As few as four implants can hold a full set of fixed dentures, known as the Toronto Bridge.
- Implants help preserve the bone in your jaw by preventing it from shrinking over time.
- With proper care, implants can last a lifetime.
- Implant surgery is a common, safe procedure. It's typically pain-free, with quick healing and very few complications.
- Success rates are very high—about 99% for healthy, non-smoking patients with good hygiene.
- If an implant doesn’t integrate with the bone (which is rare), it can often be safely replaced.
- Most implants heal and integrate in just 2 to 3 months, though some cases may take a bit longer.
HOW DOES IT WORK?
- You should be in good general health.
- You should be ready to commit to a few months of treatment.
- Excellent oral hygiene is essential.
- Certain health conditions, like uncontrolled diabetes or severe liver or kidney issues, can prevent implant treatment.
- Smoking can reduce the chances of success and slow healing.
- Patients who have had chemotherapy, radiation therapy, bisphosphonate medications, or a recent heart attack may not be suitable candidates.
- You need to have enough healthy bone for the implant. If not, we may suggest bone grafting or regeneration.
Once we’ve reviewed your health history and made a treatment plan, we’ll schedule the surgery. The procedure is quick, done under local anesthesia, and is generally painless. The dentist gently opens the gum, places the implant into the bone, and stitches the area with dissolvable sutures that usually heal in 7 to 10 days.
For full-mouth implants like the Toronto Bridge, temporary dentures may be placed the same day. Once the implant has fully integrated with your bone, you’ll return to the clinic to have your final, permanent teeth made.
RISKS
- In rare cases, the implant might not fuse with the bone. This usually doesn’t cause any pain or infection and can often be corrected.
- There is a small risk of infection, bleeding, nerve damage, or sinus complications, depending on where the implant is placed.
WHAT TO EXPECT
Afterward, we’ll give you medication to manage discomfort and help the area heal quickly.
You may experience mild swelling, which can be eased with ice packs and medications like corticosteroids. Antibiotics and pain relievers will help keep you comfortable.
Our team will be here to support you throughout the healing period. After about 7 to 10 days, you’ll be able to return to your normal routine while your implant continues to integrate with your bone.
With proper care and motivation, your implant will restore your missing teeth with a long-lasting, comfortable, and beautiful result.
